Judging Begins!

By Pollinator Paradise - Thursday, July 15, 2021

I suspect that the miserable cool rain that is covering South London is an apt reflection on the nations mood this morning following the Euro 2020 final yesterday evening.

However, lets not forget just like gardening – there’s always next year (or 2024).

This year the weather has not been as kind to us as last year. Back in the late spring meteorologists predicted that we would experience a summer of average temperatures.

In fact April was one of the driest and coldest on record and May one of the wettest; June was mixed and now we are in mid-July and there is talk of a mini heat wave next week.

What this has meant to some insects is that there is not much pollen or nectar to feed on.
Its easy to see that honey bees have not been finding much food because they are not making much honey.  But how other pollinators are faring is difficult to tell. So it is even more important that we grow plants that are particularly food rich for them.

Our judges will be out and about over the next 2 weeks and winners will be announced at the beginning of August.

There will also be a presentation to the winners at the Tooting Foodival at the beginning of September.

And a big thank you to all of you who have signed up to POLLINATOR PARDISE 2021.
